Destinations include Danang (203,000 VND, 8 ½ to 12 ½ hours, seven daily), Tuy Hoa (44,000 VND, 2 ½ hours, five daily), Thap Cham (35,000 VND, 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours, eight daily) and Ho Chi Minh City (160,000 VND, seven to 12 ½ hours, nine daily).

Book directly at the train station and as far in advance as possible if you want to get a seat on a soft-sleeper (the highest class available on Vietnamese trains) and not with an agent as he may sell you the soft sleeper but you may end up on a hard-sleeper. Alternatively, you may book a cushioned seat in the AC car, also at the ticket office of the train station. Soft sleeper rooms are 4 berth, hard sleepers are 6 berth. You can sit comfortably on a lower bed in a 4 berth room but in a 6 berth it is difficult for an average adult to sit up straight. Trains with SNT-code have a good quality are superior to those coded differently.

From Ho Chi Minh City the journey to Nha Trang takes 7 hours. The ticket for a cushioned seat in the AC car amounts to 190,000 VND. A sleeper train from HCMC to Nha Trang and on to Hanoi is also available. The price for a soft sleeper  from HCMC to Nha Trang is 535,000 VND.
(Prices and time tables subject to changes)

No more long queues in front of the Nha Trang station ticket office since July 2012 as there is a waiting room with chairs and ticket buyers are called upon in numberial order. In addition, tickets can be bought at travel agency offices (such as that of www.nha-trang.travel), by home delivery service (against a surcharge) and on the internet (in Vietnamese): www.vetau.com.vn Go here to find sites where you can book online in english.
